ECON-258 Global Economic Crisis

ECON-258 Global Economic Crisis
Spring only
Desmond Lachman
This course will focus on the present global economic crisis, which has been the most severe economic crisis in the post-war period. It will examine the origins and trace the evolution of that crisis. It will also look at the extraordinary monetary and fiscal policy measures that have been taken to address the crisis.
An important aim of the course will be to distinguish how the present global economic recession differs from previous post-war economic recessions. It will emphasize the synchronized nature of the current global economic recession as well as the role that bursting of asset price and credit market bubbles have played in the crisis.
