ECON-490 Development Economics: Macro Perspectives on Economic Growth

This course examines the question of why some countries are richer than others. The goal of the course is to provide an understanding of the tools macroeconomists use to analyze the major topics in economic development. It will cover how to measure international income differences and what the data tell us about these differences. It will examine how to use modern macroeconomic tools to evaluate theories of the causes of international income differences and policies to alleviate poverty. Topics covered include physical and human capital accumulation, financial sector development, social conflict and institutional quality.
