GERM-467 German Romanticism
On the basis of programmatic, aesthetic and literary texts of the era (by Friedrich and Dorothea Schlegel, Novalis, Tieck, Kleist, Brantano, E. T. A. Hoffmann, Sopie Mereau, Karoline von Günderode, and Bettina von Arnim), this course provides a contrastive overview of the theory and literature of Early and Late Romanticism as well as the most important genres of the era (novel, fragment, fairy tale).
