INAF-494 The Politics and Culture of Shi’ism

  • This course will examine the emergence, evolution and current status of Shi'a Islam, including its different versions, the geographical distribution of Shia Muslims, the theological foundations of Shiism , the historical experience of the Shias and how this history has shaped the Shii culture and politics, plus the ideas and works of key contemporary Shia thinkers and their impact on the culture and politics of contemporary Shia communities, notably in Iran, Iraq and Lebanon.
