MATH-504 Numerical Methods

MATH-504 Numerical Methods

  • This course introduces numerical algorithms for solving nonlinear equations; systems of linear equations; approximation and interpolation; numerical integration; fast Fourier transform and least squares methods, and ordinary differential equations. We will also discuss issues associated with computer arithmetic. Error analysis and convergence of numerical schemes will be examined as well.

    This course requires knowledge of multivariable calculus, linear algebra and differential equations. Some knowledge in one computer programming language is required.

    Spring semester; fall and spring starting in 2010.
    Credits: 3
    Prerequisites: Math-502 or equivalent, Math-510 or equivalent
