For each of the elements listed below, we will introduce the main concepts, discuss tools, and then engage the students in applying the tools through a “live” project.”
1. What is evaluation?
-Vocabulary of evaluation
-Challenges of evaluation
2. Evaluation design: quantitative and qualitative approaches
3. Evaluation tools and methods
4. Practical data collection procedures
5. Practical data analysis
6. Engaging stakeholders in the design and implementation
7. Planning and managing evaluation for maximum effectiveness
8. Budgeting the evaluation
9. Assessing the feasibility and usefulness of evaluation
10. Communication of findings

By the end of this course students will be conversant in evaluation methodology and procedures, become discerning users of existing data, differentiate between types of methods and tools for practical evaluation, be able to discuss why evaluation techniques are appropriate to a country setting, apply the appropriate techniques to various projects, and be able to plan and carry out an evaluation of a project of their choice.
