MSFS-547 Chinese Policy Priorities and the Rise of China

  • This course assesses the political, economic, military and foreign policy priorities of China’s leaders. It focuses on the period following the death of Mao Zedong (d. 1976), and examines the changes and reforms that have made China the fastest growing power in Asian and world affairs. It assesses the implications of these developments for US relations with China and US interests in Asian and world affairs. Upon completing the course, students should have a thorough understanding of contemporary Chinese policy priorities, Chinese development and reforms, and their implications for the United States, and they should be familiar with major competing perspectives and issues regarding the above topics.
