This class will provide students with critical background information about HIV and AIDS in Africa, including epidemiological data as well as information about social impacts. Background will include an introduction to approaches in government and community response to the HIV epidemic, covering public health strategies and approaches grounded in cultural anthropology. Students will learn about resources to monitor important developments related to the epidemic, and practice using them to analyze problems including websites, podcasts, newspaper and journal articles.
