STIA-384 Geography of the Global Environment

This course will provide in lecture format a spatial view of the Earth's environments. Topics to be addressed include the interaction between environments and societies; land masses and ocean basins; oceanic circulation systems; atmospheric processes and climatic regions. Class time and reading will also be devoted to ice ages and warming ("greenhouse") episodes; soil formation, distribution, use, and deterioration; human impact on natural vegetation; landforms and landscapes, including specific physiographic regions.
