STIA-425 Senior Seminar: Biosecurity and Agricultural Security

The course is designed to do a critical analysis of current policies and programs regarding biosecurity, public health and agriculture security. We will explore U.S. and non-U.S. government policies/programs towards offensive and defensive biological weapons, public health measures to respond to intentional and natural biological outbreaks, and measures to prevent intentional or natural outbreaks in agriculture. By using real-world examples, we will discuss how these policies/programs are viewed by and/or affect the international community. Students will have opportunities to consider scientific policies and their consequences, develop policy recommendations and write policy briefs.
