"Turkic Folklore and Literature: Treasures of the Silk Road" is the sub-title of this seminar course which combines readings (in English) directly from the oral and written artistic traditions of Turkic Central Asia with scholarly works about these traditions. Epic storytelling musical traditions, classical and modern aesthetics, historical and political issues as addressed in artistic forms, and the changing place of religion in the indigenous literature of the region are some of the topics of the course.
