    • The mass media are an integral and pervasive part of the American political process. Citizens are continually bombarded with media messages that directly and indirectly shape their orientations toward the political world. This course will explore the role of the mass media in constructing political reality from the perspectives of both the press and the public. The importance of formal political media and more popular formats in portraying political events and in molding public attitudes will be assessed.
