CCTP-850 From Theory to Practice: Persuasion, Narrative, & the Portfolio

CCTP-850-01 From Theory to Practice: Persuasion, Narrative, & the Portfolio
Spring only
In this seminar, based on theories of persuasion and digital narrative, students will use the language of new media to present their academic and professional identit(ies). Each student will develop a rich, outward-facing e-portfolio which will reflect his or her growth, learning, and expertise in ways designed to appeal to potential employers, provide a summative experience different from a thesis, and/or function as an innovative or digital component for a thesis.

In this project-based seminar, students will, among other things: read and discuss relevant theoretical works, explore industry trends in light of appropriate fields of study, practice articulating academic and work experiences as preparation for careers, learn to present ideas through traditional and new media means, and leave with a polished, rich, e-portfolio that presents their professional identity in ways consistent with the research on persuasion and digital narrative. This course will be especially useful to second-year students who are preparing to move into the next stage of their careers.
