ARST-501 Introduction to the Study of the Arab World
Spring for 2017-2018
This course provides a critical introduction to the main paradigms, methods, and approaches that have been used to study the Arab world. From Oriental Studies, modernization theory, and area studies to the disciplinary social sciences, we explore how specific social, historical, and political contexts affect knowledge production in and on the Arab Middle East and North Africa.
