CATH-225-01 Ecology and Catholic Social Thought
Spring for 2017-2018
Grazer, Walter
Pope Francis recently issued (summer 2015) an historical encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si. This course examines his specific contribution, as well as the historical development and overall contribution of Catholic Social Thought and teaching (CST) to modern ecological and environmental issues. The course emphasizes the link between caring for the earth and caring for those in poverty. Global climate change, a key 21st century concern, serves as template for the course’s practical application of Catholic social teaching to ecological concerns. It is imperative that people of Gospel faith, and in this instance the Catholic community, help address this global issue.
