ENGL-187-01 Seminar: Wordsworth, the Prelude

  • This course will examine the evolution of Wordsworth’s masterpiece, The Prelude. As the principal focus of this course is poetry, students will be expected to engage in a close examination of its mechanics and inner workings; it will be necessary for everyone to be able to engage in metrical analysis, and analyze the formal qualities of the verse. Everyone is expected to deliver at least one class presentation relating to part of the poem. Throughout, the emphasis will be on close analysis of the text and class discussion in which students are expected to participate. There will be regular writing assignments which will contribute to overall assessment.
