ENGL-282-01 Contemporary Theatre & Performance
Spring only
This course examines the methods of contemporary theatre, theatricality, and civic performance to interrogate politics and culture. We will consider the ways performance has responded to and accommodated (or not), current social, ideological, and aesthetic shifts in our increasingly volatile world. We shall study various forms of theatre and performances which aim to meet the needs of people for interaction, dialogue, critical thinking, action, and fun. Students will attend both theatrical and civic performances on and off campus. Prior knowledge of theatre and/or performance studies is not required.
