ENGL-339-01 Advanced Poetry Writing
Spring for 2006-2007
Faculty:
This workshop will help writers work to complete a portfolio of poems. We'll read intensely; discuss published poems, and drafts of our own poems; write critical prose on a number of books of poems; acquaint ourselves with poetic forms, and some useful prose arguments by poets; assemble anthologies of our favorite poems; attend readings; and give a poetry reading ourselves. You should be happy (or not displeased) to give and hear hearing helpful criticism of poems in a group setting. Prerequisites: at least one college course in creative writing, and a working familiarity with poetry, gained either by coursework or individual study. Please bring copies of five of your poems to the first class meeting. Permission of instructor required.
