ENGL-340-01 Creative Nonfiction Writing

  • The course will be organized around several main sections: Memories, memoirs, dredging up the past; Writing the political/the ideological; Journeys, travel, road-trips, strange places; Popular Culture. These sections will be defined by a genre and a multitude of short readings We will write a major essay or narrative for each section--most of our class time will be spent working on these essays. Readings will include Barbara Ehrenreich, Louise Erdrich, Mary Karr, James Baldwin, George Orwell, Hunter Thompson, Camile Paglia, Alice Walker, Richard Rodriquez, Cornel West, Tillie Olsen, John McPhee, and more, more, more.
