ENGL-469-01 The Fire this Time Workshop
Spring only
This class will cover all aspects of producing a newspaper: design, layout, reporting, writing, and editing, as well as managing an online presence. In a workshop setting, students will work to re-conceive and revamp The Fire This Time, a Georgetown University student publication, The Fire This Time was created in the spring of 2000 to focus on minority issues of interest to the Georgetown community. Students’ work for the class will be published in issues that are produced during the semester.
In addition to working on the publication, students will be assigned various readings that explore the history of African American and other minority newspapers. Prior journalism experience, including having taken “Introduction to Journalism” (ENGL 470) and/or having interned at a media outlet, is recommended but not required.
