FREN-293 Business French
Faculty:
This course is aimed to students who already have a good command of the French language, are interested in improving their language skills in the field of business, and in learning about how business is conducted in France and other francophone countries.
Students will have the opportunity to improve not only their oral proficiency in French (comprehension and expression) through presentations, discussions and play roles, but they will also enhance their written skills (reading and writing) through summaries of specialized press articles, memos, minutes, emails and business letters. The course is entirely in French and is taught in a very interactive way, mostly based on the case study method - analysis of real life situations. Students will learn how to communicate orally and in writing with business partners, to become entrepreneur themselves and how to develop a business plan. There will be three tests during the semester and a final project based on the business and marketing techniques learned during the semester. At the end of the semester, upon request, students will have the opportunity to take the Certification of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP) This course fulfills the upper division post advanced language requirement for the French major. Credits: 3
Prerequisites: Advanced Grammar and Writing or Literature/Culture and Writing, or permission of instructor.
