GOVT-293 State/Politics of Former Soviet Union
Professor Gustafson
This course examines the transformations in politics, economics and borders that have occurred in the former Soviet Union. Focusing on Russia--the most important of the fifteen Soviet "successor states," the course will examine the new political institutions and behaviors emerging since the collapse of the USSR in 1991. In particular, it will address the influence of common Soviet legacies, the difficulties of democratization, and the emergence of new political patterns.
