Professor Gary Franks
This course will be divided into a section on Congress and a section on Minorities in Congress. Taught by former congressman Gary Franks, the Congress section will discuss how one gets elected to Congress, how one becomes an effective member of Congress, coalition politics and the role of the political parties. The Minorities in Congress section will discuss the status of ethnic minorities in Congress, the history of their representation in Congress, racial gerrymandering, registration in political parties, African American and other ethnic groups issues, and African American leaders.
