GOVT-581 Conflict Resolution Skills
Spring for 2009-2010
Faculty:
In order to pursue a career in conflict resolution, whether as a researcher, scholar or practitioner, a strong foundation in conflict resolution skills and processes such as conflict analysis and assessment, communication, cross-cultural, facilitation, and dialogue skills are necessary. The course focuses on practical and experiential learning through exercises, simulations, case studies, guest lectures and discussions. Students will also develop their skills as reflective practitioners.
Since many individuals pursuing careers in conflict resolution will find employment in related sectors such as development, human resources, community organizing, this course explores how these skills can be integrated into other sectors and conflict mainstreaming. In addition, throughout the course strategies for how to market conflict resolution expertise within today’s competitive job market will be covered. [IR] Credits: 3
