This course examines the impact of politics and health policy and the organization, delivery, financing and regulation of health care. Policy initiatives that affect health status and the delivery of health care are explored, and strategies for influencing political processes are examined. Emphases are placed on the social, economic and political forces that influence health policy.

This course examines the impact of politics and health policy on the organization, delivery, financing, and regulation of health care. Policy initiatives that affect health status and the delivery of health care are explored and various strategies for influencing political processes are considered. Various historical and political theories that have impacted health care policy are examined. The health care reform process is examined by detailing agenda setting, various players in the process, the media, interest groups, and the public. Written and verbal skills for health care reform and advocacy are developed through the use of group work and written assignments. This is a core course for Health Studies majors.
