    • This course explores the broader socio-cultural conditions within which America's most important late nineteenth century writer pursued his craft. The Western Frontier, race relations, urban-rural conflict, technology and Victorian culture will be studied and linked to Mark Twain's novels, short stories and work as a journalist.
