HIST-462 History of Islam in Africa

  • This course examines the development of Muslim communities in Africa from the time of Muhammad to the present. All regions of Africa will be discussed, noting the changes in the regional societies and their relationships over the centuries. Some emphasis will be given to analysis of jihad traditions, and relations between Islam and the state in the colonial and contemporary periods.
