  • Enslaved Africans were freed in the Nation’s Capital, 150 years ago on April 16, 1862. In this seminar we will make a systematic study of slavery, emancipation and the struggle for equality in Washington D.C from the mid to late 1700’s to 1900. We will use primary and secondary sources, and visit historic sites and archives.
