INAF-438 Religion, Ethics and World Affairs
Spring for 2012-2013
Faculty:
  • Banchoff, Thomas
  • The last several decades have seen a reemergence of religious and ethical issues in world politics. With the end of the cold war in 1989 and the attacks of September 11, 2001, issues with a faith and values dimension have moved up the global political agenda. War and diplomacy in the Middle East; the struggle against terrorism and extremism; efforts to reduce poverty and disease worldwide; the challenge of climate change; controversies about the religious and cultural dimensions of universal human rights – these are among the issues we will be exploring over the course of the semester. Working individually and in groups, students will develop and present original research papers. The course is the capstone seminar for the new SFS Certificate in Religion, Ethics, and World Affairs.
