KREN-311 Integrated Advanced Korean

This course is fourth-level Korean designed for students who have completed KREN 212 third-level Korean II or its equivalent. Students will develop to an advanced level of both oral and written proficiency through listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities using authentic Korean materials. Learning language will be paralleled with expanding socio-cultural understanding of Korea and development of cultural competence by dealing with various topics in the texts. Through this course, students will a) learn advanced-level vocabulary, expression, and sentence structure, b) be equipped with the ability to narrate, describe, rephrase, resort to a circumlocution, and argue in a paragraph-length discourse in a coherent and organized way, c) be able to deal with abstract topics about social and cultural issues of Korea in various forms and contexts of oral and written communication, d) prepare their further studies about a specific area of their interest, with the required Korean language skills. This course requires the student’s active participation in class activities, assignments, individual presentation, group project, quizzes, and the final exam. Instructional language is Korean and English will be used minimally.
