Language is central to education at every level of discourse, from the
micro-interactions that constitute the teaching and learning dynamic to the
public rhetoric that shapes national policies. Through readings, discussion,
research assignments, and interactive learning activities, this course
introduces students to a wide range of topics at the intersection of
linguistics and education, with a particular focus on issues relating to
first-language education and African American English.
