Multifamily, Affordable & Senior Housing is designed to introduce students to the intricacies this industry segment from the perspective of the developer. These projects require a combination of real estate development skill, policy expertise, and political acumen. The developer must successfully manage a team of consultants, lenders, construction professionals and stakeholders to create an asset with sustainable value growth to the owners and investors, while also demonstrating value to the community. When affordable and/or senior housing is desired, the layering on of additional complexities of grants, agency compliance, and local government involvement require additional sensitivities and skill sets. The financing options discussed include: market rate mortgages, FHA, FNMA loan programs, private equity REITs, and Low Income Housing Tax Credits. The course is taught by a seasoned practitioner of these product types, with involvement in over $200 million of projects in the last decade. Throughout the course, guest speakers active in these various industry segments will share examples of relevant experiences from multifamily, senior and affordable housing development.
