Elements of Music explores the fundamental components of music making. Students will develop a basic fluency in reading, writing, and listening to music from a variety of genres, including classical, rock/pop, jazz, electronic, and hip hop/sample-based, among others. We will explore the mechanics of how these styles of music are put together, their commonalities and points of departure, and the music theory behind why they work. Elements of Music is intended for students who have little background in formalized music training.
