This required course provides an overview of major psychiatric illnesses, behavioral challenges and complex symptom presentations of individuals with mental health illness. Evidence-based interventions, communication science and the various roles of psychiatric-mental health nurses as integral members of the interdisciplinary treatment team will be presented. Content on mental health promotion, prevention, patient-centered care and patient empowerment across multiple care settings will be explored.
