PSYC-501 Seminar: Conceptual Foundations of Developmental Science
Spring for 2011-2012
This graduate-level course entails a critical examination of the field of developmental science as a sub-discipline of psychology. Readings have been selected so as to facilitate a historically informed and philosophically penetrating discussion of the metaphysical and epistemological issues that arise in connection with three central questions: (1) What makes research carried out within this sub-discipline psychological? (2) What makes the work developmental? (3) What makes the work scientific? In the latter part of the course, each student will lead a discussion of these issues as they bear on and inform his/her own program of research.
