SPAN-264 Survey of Spanish American Literature
Professors Hernando and Salles-Reese
A survey of Spanish American literature from its colonial origins through the present. Students will read and discuss a wide range of authors and genres from Columbus through the contemporary period. Special consideration is given to the historical, political, and social dimensions of the literature and its role in the development of a Latin American consciousness. Theoretical and critical approaches will be introduced to help the student interpret key texts.
