SPAN-475 Travel Literature: Understanding Self & Other
Spring for 2017-2018
This course will explore the writing of self and other represented in travel literature. We will pay particular attention to the negotiations between the self and the observed world by analyzing the processes through which the travelers attempt to describe, interpret and represent peoples and places that are different to their own. We will read representative examples of accounts from travelers who came from and moved to distant point of our world.
