SPAN-500 Spanish Teaching Methodology
Spring for 2011-2012
This course is divided into two parts. The first part is a study of the fundamental concepts of adult language learning and teaching. Topics include an introduction to processing approaches to language learning; teaching methods, and related techniques; the role of explicit instruction and input; and classroom interaction. The concepts introduced in the first part are then applied to L2 comprehension (reading and listening), production (speaking and writing), and testing. Throughout the semester, students will critique published articles and design activities, tasks, tests, and lesson plans and complete classroom observations. Students will be assessed through oral presentations, two examinations, and assignments. The course is a requirement for doctoral students in Spanish. The course is taught in Spanish and all assignments must be completed in Spanish.
