STRT-571 International Business Environment

  • Objectives and Topics. The course equips students with decision making tools for managing the firm’s international business, and it educates them in the economic and political environment in which international business is conducted. The major topic areas of the course are as follows:

    International Business Decisions
    (1) International trade theory and policy - what determines exports and imports and why and how governments regulate trade
    (2) International investment theory and practice - foreign direct and portfolio investment and the firm’s decision about its mode of international business participation
    (3) Exchange rates and balance of payments - how exchange rates are determined and how they affect international business

    Macroeconomic and Political Environment
    (4) Macroeconomic and macropolitical environment - the structure and functioning of the economy and polity in which international businesses operate
    (5) Macroeconomic policy - monetary and fiscal policy objectives that meet voters’ preferences, with policy methods and outcomes.
