THEO-601-01 Theology of Karl Rahner

This course is one of the three "pluralism seminars" of the doctoral program, the first with a theological focus, the second with an ethical focus, and the third with a cultural focus. This course is one with the theological focus.

Its purpose is twofold. First, for students who have had no or little background in Christian theology, it serves as an intensive introduction to the methods and basic themes of Christian theology. For students who already have a master’s degree in Christian theology, it provides an opportunity to do an in-depth study of an aspect of Rahnerian theology. In both cases, however, the objective is to produce a comparative theology between a theme of Christian/Rahnerian theology with that of another religious tradition. Throughout the course, therefore, students must explore the possibility of how a particular theme in Rahnerian theology may contradict, correct or enrich a theological theme in another religious tradition and vice versa.
